Stranger with a Strange Heart

Really, one should easily accept that music is influential and ubiqutious as a meliflous background to one's everyday life. I, on the other hand, can go for months not listening specifically to anything. Forget about work these days, there's never enough time to listen to the internet while I am too busy moving and thinking. Then, you would think that time at home affords you the chance and the entertainment. But save for watching occasional VH1 reminiscing countdown shows with Hubbostrich (and clicking on links from friends to "one hit wonders" on Yo*t*be), it's pretty much a barren desert of music in my world.

In the car, though, while talk radios occupy 90% of my ten minute driving each way to and back from the work place, I occasionally scan the radio and usually ended up at one psychedelic channel that is Stanford radio KZSU. This morning, I heard this song for the first time there and have been playing it over and over with a smile in my face. I do believe there's no more tricks up my sleeve and although the good old days have passed, the good times are definitely coming.

20 years of schooling, I just never learned the math
That 1 and 1 don't equal 2, they often equal half
While I've tried to live the high life, the best that I know how
And I bought my share of debonair, parlayin' it on the crowd

Oh I, I do believe that there's no more tricks up my sleeve
Oh, the good old days have passed and the dip turns after that
And slowly I've become undone, a stranger with a stranger heart

Well, I plan to hit the bottom, the bottle then the top
And I pray that something quits me before I got to stop
'Cause the masquerade is over but I was barely there
The masks come off the gilded clock, yet I'm just barely here

Oh, and I, I do believe that there's no more tricks up my sleeve
Oh, the good old days have passed and the good times after that
And slowly I've become undone, a stranger with a stranger heart

Oh I, I do believe that there's no more tricks up my sleeve
Oh, the good old days have passed and the good times after that
And slowly I've become undone, a stranger with a stranger heart

I do believe that there's no more tricks up my sleeve
Oh, the good old days have passed and the good times after that
And slowly I've become undone, a stranger with a stranger heart

I do believe that there's no more tricks up my sleeve
Oh, the good old days have passed and the good times after that
And slowly I've become undone, a stranger with a stranger heart

Sing with Me

We were driving on Highway 101 back from Los Angeles to Santa Clara Sunday night. As we cruised along the coast, moon light was reflected in the Pacific ocean. Together with the dark they cascaded an undescribable feeling.

The thing about being on a road trip is you get to think about anything and everything to the point that it is therapeutic. A big plus if in the background you have songs that further enable that kind of cerebral yet sentimental moment. One of these songs for me is Aerosmith's Dream On. Sing with me...

Every time I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past is gone
It goes by, like dusk to dawn
Isn't that the way
Everybody's got their dues in life to pay

Yeah, I know nobody knows
where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know how to win

Half my life
is in books' written pages
Lived and learned from fools
and from sages
You know it's true
All the things come back to you

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

Dream on Dream on Dream on
Dream until your dreams come true
Dream on Dream on Dream on
Dream until your dream comes through
Dream on Dream on Dream on
Dream on Dream on
Dream on Dream on

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away
Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away...

Click Clack, Ding Dong and Charlie Chan

What a sentimental song this score is. The movie hit too close to home.

So tenderly
Your story is
Nothing more
Than what you see
Or what you've done
Or will become
Standing strong
Do you belong
In your skin
Just wondering

Gentle now
The tender breeze blows
Whispers through my Gran Torino
Whistling another tired song

Engine humms
And bitter dreams
Grow heart locked
In a Gran Torino
It beats a lonely rhythm
All night long
It beats a lonely rhythm
All night long
It beats a lonely rhythm
All night long

Realign
All the stars
Above my head
Warning signs
Travel far
I drink instead
On my own
Oh! How I've known
The battle scars
And worn out beds

Gentle now
A tender breeze blows
Whispers through
A Gran Torino
Whistling another tired song

Engines humm
And bitter dreams
Grow heart locked
In a Gran Torino
It beats
A lonely rhythm all night long

These streets
Are old they shine
With the things I've known
And breaks through the trees
Their sparkling

Your world
Is nothing more
Than all the tiny things
You've left behind

So tenderly
Your story is
Nothing more
Than what you see
Or what you've done
Or will become
Standing strong
Do you belong
In your skin
Just wondering

Gentle now
A tender breeze blows
Whispers through
The Gran Torino
Whistling another tired song

Engines humm
And bitter dreams grow
A heart locked
In a Gran Torino
It beats
A lonely rhythm all night long

May I be so bold and stay
I need someone to hold
That shudders my skin
Their sparkling

Your world
Is nothing more
Than all the tiny things
You've left behind

So realign
All the stars above my head
Warning signs travel far
I drink instead
On my own
Oh! How I've known
The battle scars
And worn out beds

Gentle now
A tender breeze blows
Whispers through
The Gran Torino
Whistling another tired song

Engines humm
And better dreams grow
Heart locked
In a Gran Torino
It beats
A lonely rhythm all night long
It beats
A lonely rhythm all night long
It beats
A lonely rhythm all night long

Zydeco Mix

I finished up burning the mix CD for Il Divo two days ago. At first all the songs sounds alike to each other. I did a little research on most reputable artists of the genre and went on from there to pick songs I like. It was like finding needle in a haystack, but it was enriching. Here is the playlist.

I went kinda crazy and had so much fun on making accompanying booklet of lyrics last night and this morning. The accuracy of the lyrics are questionable, though. I can't even totally catch the English part much less the Cajun French thrown in freely on some of the songs. It's an interesting genre of music, this Zydeco. I can't help to be thrown into experiencing the life of the Cajun/New Orleans people from the way of their music, playful and free-forming.

Hair Saga, Still (Bored at Work)

To: bwn####@chemail.****.***

Subject: Hair Saga, Still (Bored at Work)

Wassap BF...

Adding to the ritual I have to make every morning, i.e., what stuff to wear to work, now I have to wash and flat iron the damn hair every single day. Shorter hair should make life simpler, I don't know how mine is such a trouble. I bring comb with me to work now and let's just say, I put a good use of any reflecting surface. Geez. And don't get me started on how it broke my heart. I cringed and shrieked a lot everytime the scissors got near my head. What can I say. I miss my long hair.

Anyway, I am closing this e-mail with a part of the lyrics of a song you compiled on my CD. I hope that it is still the case with you.

They say that time takes its toll on a body
Makes the young girls brown hair turn grey
But honey, I dont care, Im not in love with your hair
And if it all fell out well I'd love you anyway

Calling You to See

After Hate Me, another song that I forgot the title of, and this song, I have to start seriously listening to Blue October.

There's something that I can't quite explain
I'm so in love with you - you'll never take that away
And if I've said a hundred times before,
Expect a thousand more - you'll never take that away

Well, expect me to be calling you to see if you're okay when I'm not around
Asking if you love me; I love the way you make it sound
Calling you to see
Do I try too hard to make you smile? To make us smile?

Well, I will keep calling you to see
If you're sleeping, are you dreaming?
If you're dreaming, are you dreaming of me?
I can't believe you actually picked me

I thought that the world had lost its sway (It's so hard sometimes)
Then I fell in love with you (Then came you. Then came you)
And you took that away (Its not so difficult. The world is not so difficult)
You take away the old, show me the new

And I feel like I can fly when I stand next to you.
So while I'm on this phone, a hundred miles from home,
I'll take the words you gave, and send them back to you

I only want to see if you're okay when I'm not around
Asking if you love me; I love the way you make it sound
Calling you to see
Do I try too hard to make you smile? To make us smile?

Well, I will keep calling you to see
If you're sleeping, are you dreaming?
If you're dreaming, are you dreaming of me?
I can't believe you actually picked me

Well, I will keep calling you to see
If you're sleeping, are you dreaming?
If you're dreaming, are you dreaming of me?
I can't believe you actually picked me

Well, I will keep calling you to see
If you're sleeping, are you dreaming?
If you're dreaming, are you dreaming of me?
I can't believe you actually picked me

Oh ohh oh oh, oh oh oh uh oh, uh oh, uh oh oh oh
Oh ohh oh oh, oh oh oh uh oh, uh oh, uh oh oh oh
Oh ohh oh oh, oh oh oh uh oh, uh oh, uh oh oh oh
Oh ohh oh oh, oh oh oh uh oh, uh oh, uh oh oh oh

'Twas the Night Before Christmas

I ran around three miles across campus. Just a perfect time to do such thing in the holiday season. There was no car and no one around. The sun was up high, and the weather was in the high 50's.

I also made a batch of Ms. S******'s chocolate almond toffee crackers recipe. I failed on the caramel, but it was still tasty. NY loves it. I'll bring some to the Christmas dinner tomorrow at G's.

We called Mom in the afternoon. It is hard for all of us. The first Christmas without my father. "Let's hope things are getting better by this time next year," says Mom.

I am going to midnight Mass and tomorrow's Christmas day Mass. "All hope failed on you," says Mr. Y. May the spirit of Christmas be upon all of us.

This song has been played over a diamond store commercial on TV. I couldn't help to post it up here. I think that possibly, maybe I'm falling for you.

Speaking of falling, I'd extend congratulations on my best friend and his bride on their wedding on December 23rd. Many happy years to follow!

I think that possibly, maybe I'm falling for you
Yes, there's a chance that I've fallen quite hard over you
I've seen the paths that your eyes wander down
I want to come too

I think that possibly, maybe I'm falling for you

No one understands me quite like you do
Through all of the shadowy corners of me

I never knew just what it was about this old coffee shop
I love so much
All of the while I never knew
I never knew just what it was about this old coffee shop
I love so much
All of the while I never knew

I think that possibly, maybe I'm falling for you
Yes, there's a chance that I've fallen quite hard over you
I've seen the waters that make your eyes shine
Now I'm shining too

Because oh because
I've fallen quite hard over over you

If I didn't know you, I'd rather not know
If I couldn't have you, I'd rather be alone

I never knew just what it was about this old coffee shop
I love so much
All of the while I never knew
I never knew just what it was about this old coffee shop
I love so much
All of the while, I never knew

All of the while , all of the while

--Coffee Shop, Landon Pigg
I invited B to a choir concert at church two hours before the concert. We met a Korean guy who turned to be a post doc at his group and his wife. She asked B if I am his girlfriend. It was funny how the both of us said no. He walked me over to my apt, met with Bro and Sis, and ended up stayed for two hours mostly watching TV. We are going to a basketball game sometime in January. B seemed to blend well with my friends and family. Definitely a good thing.

Not Just a Favorite

Waktu terus berlalu

Just an Old Favorite

Tonight I'm tangled in my blanket of clouds
Dreaming aloud
Things just won't do without you, matter of fact
I'm on your back, I'm on your back, I'm on your back

If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you
If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you

If you'd accept surrender, I'll give up some more
Weren't you adored
I cannot be without you, matter of fact
I'm on your back, I'm on your back, I'm on your back

If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you
If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you

Another heart is cracked in two, I'm on your back

I cannot be without you, matter of fact
I'm on your back, I'm on your back, I'm on your back

If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you
If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you
If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you

Another heart is cracked in two, I'm on your back

Wish You Were Here

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell
Blue skies from pain
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year
Running over the same old ground
What have you found?
The same old fears
Wish you were here

I*n*t*e*l, This Is For You

90 miles outside Chicago
Can't stop driving
I don't know why
So many questions
I need an answer
Two years later
You're still on my mind

Whatever happened to Amelia Earhart
Who holds the stars up in the sky
Is true love once in a lifetime?
Did the captain of The Titanic cry?

Someday we'll know
If love can move a mountain
Someday we'll know
Why the sky is blue
Someday we'll know
Why I wasn't meant for you

Does anybody know the way to Atlantis?
Or what the wind says when she cries
I'm speeding by the place where I met you
For the 97th time tonight

(Chorus)

Someday we'll know
Why Samson loved Delilah
One day I'll go
Dancing on the moon
Someday you'll know
That I was the one for you

I bought a ticket to the end of the rainbow
I watched the stars crash in the sea
If I could ask God just one question
Why aren't you here with me?

(Chorus)

Someday we'll know
Why Sampson loved Delilah
One day I'll go
Dancing on the moon
Someday you'll know
That I was the one for you

The Summons

I'm just hoping this anger problem is hormone-related

still?

yup!!
So on my failed attempts to cool down, I tried to listen to appropriate songs. One of them was from the Mass last week. I came across this performance on YouTube. I'm sorry, but it was so bad it made me crawling on the floor laughing...and I am no singer!

NY agrees with me: "untuk apa mereka pake jubah segala...," "yak, udah forte tiba-tiba melempem," "satu suara dua puluh orang!!"

Oh well. It is a good song. Ade loves it, right, De? She went with us to church last week. Adventurous!

Will you come and follow me
If I but call your name?
Will you go where you don’t know
And never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown,
Will you let my name be known,
Will you let my life be grown
In you and you in me?

Will you leave yourself behind
If I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind
And never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare
Should your life attract or scare?
Will you let me answer prayer
In you and you in me?

Will you let the blinded see
If I but call your name?
Will you set the pris’ners free
And never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean,
And do such as this unseen,
And admit to what I mean
In you and you in me?

Will you love the ‘you’ you hide
If I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside
And never be the same?
Will you use the faith you’ve found
To reshape the world around,
Through my sight and touch and sound
In you and you in me?

Lord, your summons echoes true
When you but call my name.
Let me turn and follow you
And never be the same.
In your company I’ll go
Where your love and footsteps show.
Thus I’ll move and live and grow
In you and you in me.

Enough Epiphany

buuu hahaha

LOL

And I am telling you
I'm not going
You're the best man I'll ever know
There's no way I can ever, ever go,

No, no, no, no way,
No, no, no, no way I'm livin' without you
Oh, I'm not livin' without you,
I'm not livin' without you
I don't wanna be free

I'm stayin',
I'm stayin',
And you, and you,
You're gonna love me

Prozac Would Suffice

I went home around 3 AM yesterday and arrived back at school around lunch time. I could do something more productive, but yesterday I was just losing my goals let alone my sanity. It's not just school, it's also life in general.

I managed to clean the next apparatus in this line of process, it took about four hours and then I played around with those data from the previous day. I went home around 9:30 PM with a headache like that from a sleep deprivation.

It was three years ago when I came into realization and decided to take charge from the perils of depression, insensible eating, and crazy schedule (that prevents one from having time to work out and taking care of one's self). I feel like they are haunting me back.

Pak, are you into Oldies?
as in song genre...

i'm not against it
i actually like big band music

haha

Bonus

You say you wander your own land
But when I think about it
I don't see how you can

You're aching, you're breaking
And I can see the pain in your eyes
It's as everybody's changing
And I don't know why

So little time
Try to understand that I'm
Trying to make a move just to stay in the game
I try to stay awake and remember my name
But everybody's changing
And I don't feel the same

You're gone from here
Soon you will disappear
Fading into beautiful light
'cause everybody's changing
And I don't feel right

So little time
Try to understand that I'm
Trying to make a move just to stay in the game
I try to stay awake and remember my name
But everybody's changing
And I don't feel the same

So little time
Try to understand that I'm
Trying to make a move just to stay in the game
I try to stay awake and remember my name
But everybody's changing
And I don't feel the same

Ooo...
Everybody's changing
And I don't feel the same
Everybody's Changing--Keane

Home Sweet Home

The other night, I was waiting for NY in the car and this song came up in the radio. I'm such a sucker for similar sentimental rock songs. It is always for the minor tunes first and later for the lyrics and then I find my self later tapping on the surface of my desk following the beats of the drums.

On its March 2007 edition, Rolling Stones featured a story on Daniel Levitin's study on the brain response to recorded music, Dr. Levitin wrote a book This is Your Brain on Music. For illustration, when someone listens to Mozart's, his/her primary auditory part of the brain is active. James Brown's further ignites the brain part responsible for emotion and motoric skill, while Eminem's adds up the sparks on the brain part responsible for language.

Interesting. That kinda explains my observation above.

You know I'm a dreamer but my heart's of gold
I have run away high so I won't come home low
Just when things went right
Doesnt' mean that they were always wrong
Just take this song and you will never feel left all alone

Take me to your heart
Throw me in your bones
Just one more night
And I'm coming off this long winding road

I'm on my way
I'm on my way
Home sweet home
Tonight tonight
I'm on my way
I'm on my way
Home sweet home

You know that I've seen too many romantic dreams
Up in the light falling off the silver screen
My heart is like an open book
For the whole world to read
Sometime nothing keeping me together at the seams

I'm on my way
I'm on my way
Home sweet home
Tonight Tonight
I'm on my way
Just set me free
Home sweet home

Sesuai Cuaca (Luar Dalam)

Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
And think of you
Caught up in circles confusion
Is nothing new

Flashback to warm nights
Almost left behind
Suitcase of memories
Time after

Sometimes you picture me
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me, I can't hear
What you've said

Then you say, go slow
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds

If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time

If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I'll be waiting
Time after time

After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows you're wondering
If I'm O.K.

Secrets, stolen
from deep inside
The drum beats out of time

If you're lost you can look, and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time

You say, go slow
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds

If you're lost you can look, and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time

If you're lost you can look, and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time

Once Upon a Time

My life has been such a whirl wind since I saw you
I've been running around in circles in my mind
And it always seems that I'm following you girl
'Cause you take me to the places that I thought I'd never find
.
.
.
And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars forever

'Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore

I've forgotten what I started fightin' for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come craching through your door

Baby I can't fight this feeling anymore
