Heylo Goodbye

Heylo Singapur....

Makasih ya udah dateng, nungguin kita yang entah di Terminal 1 apa 2, trus ngobrol2 sampe 2.5 jam sampe kalian harus bertaksi ria pulang. :)
Kita terhibur lor (lah?). Sayang nggak bisa upload poto2nya nih. Entar aja ya. Sampe ketemu dua tahun lagi (keliatannya intervalnya kayak gitu.)

Heylo Jakarta....Bye Jakarta...

Heylo Texas....We are coming home!
Nantikan artis-artis Ria Jenaka ini by midnight Friday! :D

So far away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn't help to know that you're just time away
Long ago I reached for you, and there you stood
Holding you again could only do me good
How I wish I could, but you're so far away

Missing You

Dear Papa,

It's been a week since we buried you. It's been a week since I stopped crying, instead I just feel numb inside. Nothing in the world will be able to move my heart, except for the memories of you. There are many silent moments when I think of you and your antics. This is still like a dream I am hoping I am going to wake up soon.

Tonight, I am missing you so much, I cried in the corner of a room. Everyone in this house has been too tough. Is it merely on the outside, aren't we all broken inside?

So here, I'm writing this. It's been therapeutic at best.

Love,
inda

I am
  1. worrying about the state of my father's health. He has diabetes for sixteen years, a light stroke in 2003 and other things in between. Did I tell you when I was a child, I used to check up on him at nights to see if he was breathing?
  2. going to start researching uric acid vs. respiratory failure, and other things I can do to help, from here. This makes me want to go hoooommmeee.

When I Grow up, I Want to be Just Like Him

"Which part of this map is Indonesia?"

The guy suddenly asked me. He had a Wikipedia map of the world on his screen. We were the only two people still perching on the computer lab at this hour of the evening.

"These parts right here." I showed him.

The map showed the countries traveled by JP II. It was color coded to indicate the number of visits the late Pope paid in each country--JP II had never been to China!. We talked a little bit about all these countries, the guy has a very decent knowledge.

Over the years, I know a little bit about the guy. We followed almost the same path. As international students, both of us have been here forever. We graduated with bachelor's degree and went to get PhD from this department.

The thing with him is that he has this starving artist mentality. Upon graduation, he turned down a well paying job in a respected industry in favor for a lower paying post doc position in the department, in which he has a greater control over a novelty research. Where will he go from here? The possibility is endless.

When I was younger, I never had a role model. These days, everyone is my role model. The guy, for instance, has a lot of qualities to be admired in a person. He's intelligent, smart, a passionate hardworker, a family guy, a religious man, and a mentally balanced person, who is also grateful and humble (or so it seems from the surface) and is not ignorant about life, people, and the world. True, part of these qualities are inherent, but he also works hard to mold himself this direction.

All in all, what a well rounded person. When I grow up, I want to be just like him.

Udah Lama Enggak

Dear R,

Tonight I went to the Rec intending to have a light exercise, what with feeling bloated and all. On TV, the Mavericks-Warriors playoff was on. Alas, it was too far from the elliptical I stationed myself, so I stuck with my reading instead. Robert Kennedy, Jr. wrote an article about falconing on Vanity Fair. An interesting reading indeed.

On occasions, I relieved my eyes from reading while moving and on one they landed on the sight of you entering the room. Gradually, my speed went from the measly 60 rpm up to the usual 80 rpm. Was it the thought of a chance of bumping to you or was it because my body finally refused to keep moving at such low speed? I don't know.

When I was done, I took a stroll out of the gym, but you were no where around. It seems you are too mobile these days after you have acquired your own car. A stick shift, I presumed.

Oh, well.
